CrossFit challenge: Day Twelve

One of the culprits...

After being on the Paleo diet for pretty much two months straight I have felt a lot of benefits. No longer do I experience post-food energy slumps, gone are the days of acne and I have said a big hello to better quality of sleep! But, on bank holiday Monday I made a little detour from my Paleo ways…I have to confess that I pigged out and ate some pretty sugary snacks throughout the day. Four macaroons, with chocolate on was accompanied later in the day by a big ol’ slice of Toblerone cake (both gluten free, not that that really matters) .

Why am I telling you this? Well, on Tuesday morning (first training day after bank holiday) I woke up, slowly, and felt as if I had sunk 12 pints of lager, 6 jager bombs & finished it off with a scotch night-cap. Packing my bag for work took a while as I decided whether or not to pack my kit to train.  Getting into work was a struggle. Battling the feeling of being sick, it took all my strength and about a gallon of water not to barf on the train. Yuck! I think that unequivocally tells me, flat out, that my body does not particularly enjoy processed sugars.  This is a massive shift for me as I alway used to accompany my cup of tea with a cookie!

By 12 oclock I was feeling a little more human. I managed some food but, compounded by the fact that my hands are ripped to shreds, the debate on whether to CrossFit was still raging. Finally at 3pm I felt fairly normal. Asking around the office for their views on whether it is suicide to train most said yes…

Here is todays workout:

After strapping up my hands as I showed you guys here, I managed 6 rounds plus an additional 200m as well as 120 OHS with 30KG balanced above my head. Additionally, I re-established my 1 rep max (RM) front squat as 85KG, an improvement of 25KG! Oh, and I stayed behind after the WOD to have a go at my dead-lift 1RM. Glad I did. I added 50KG to my 1 rep max and lifted 130KG! So proud I have attached a few vids! Boom!

The W.O.D.'Nicole' with a nice warm up and strength session.

Despite a crappola start to the day I’d deem today’s CrossFit session both a saviour and a great sucess. Couple of PR’s plus I am not dead. My arms are in overhead squat oblivion, but I’m all good. The moral of this entry is that sugar=crack. Too much will leave you with a synthetic hangover and piss poor performance at work the next day. However the good news is that a workout like CrossFit will get you over it. FACT!
